Designated as Divisional Cavalry during the First World War, The Otago Mounted Rifles (OMR) had a different war from other New Zealand Mounted Rifles Regiments. At Gallipoli they were the first mounted rifleman to arrive at Anzac Cove. They fought with distinction during the harrowing August offensive and the survivors were among the last to leave the Peninsula.
